Environmental Conflicts and Poverty Linkage
Families throughout Chad continue to rely on traditional fuel
sources such as firewood and charcoal, the use of which has
severe health, environmental and social effects. The most
serious environmental impact is the rapid deforestation in
the Barh Koh and other regions of southern Chad. Addressing
rural energy needs would not only preserve the environment,
but would also provide the means for economic growth and social
development |
|
Rampant Food Poverty and Malnutrition
Food related poverty affects around 44.2 percent of households
in Chad, and the incidence of overall poverty is 54 percent
for the country as a whole. The prefecture of Moyen-Chari
which includes the Barh Koh Department has the highest percentage
of food related poverty (57.1%), and the highest incidence
of overall poverty (58.1%) in a country that figures among
the 10 poorest countries in the world |
