| The
Barh Koh ESDA Eco-Diversity Program |
Many
refugees and new immigrants from Africa and elsewhere come
to Canada with different concepts and understanding of the
local and global environments and how they interrelate.
The
Barh Koh ESDA "Eco-Diversity" is a sustainable program
designed to help increase environmental awareness among refugees
and new immigrant communities in Canada. More specifically,
the goals of the Eco-Diversity program are to:
-
Foster
environmental capacity building,
-
Facilitate
adjustment and integration of newcomers in Canada
-
Promote
the participation of newcomers in local and international
environmental and development programs
The
Barh Koh ESDA Eco-Diversity program was initiated in the Greater
Toronto Area since 2004 and is now being progressively extended
to all Canadian Provinces and into the United States. The program
includes:
-
Environmental
public presentations and seminars
-
Orientation
of newcomers to environmental issues and regulations
-
Summer
Ecological field trips
-
Research
and dissemination of environmental newsletters
