may face genocide, UN warns
NEW YORK , 16 February 2007 (BBC News) - The violence
in Chad could turn into a genocide similar to that in Rwanda
in 1994, the UN refugee agency has warned. The UNHCR says
the killing tactics from neighboring Darfur in Sudan have
been transported to eastern Chad in full.

Security Council members emerged from a lengthy meeting
on Chad, the Central African Republic (CAR) and Darfur on
Wednesday, agreeing by consensus to send a new technical
assessment mission to Chad and CAR “as quickly as possible”
according to current Council president, Russian Ambassador
Vitaly Churkin.
