Environmental Conflicts
and Poverty Linkage
Families throughout Chad continue to rely on traditional fuel
sources such as firewood and charcoal, the use of which has
severe health, environmental and social effects. The lack of access to modern energy source
leads to heavy dependency on firewood, which in turn leads to deforestation
and desertification of the fragile Chadian ecosystems. Addressing rural
energy needs would not only preserve the environment, but
would also provide the means for economic growth and social
development

Sustainable Environment & Development Challenges
Stuck right in the heart of Africa, Chad is one of the 10 poorest countries on the planet and
perhaps the most isolated country in Africa. In addition to its harsh climatic conditions, Chad has endured more
than 30 years of civil strife. These are some of the factors that explain past development failures as well as the continued lack of efforts
to implement concrete sustainable programs.
Barh Koh ESDA integrates these constraints into coherant and innovative operational strategies for long term sustainable Environment and Development

Absolute Poverty in Chad: A Human Rights Dilemma
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights stipulated that everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his
family including housing, clean water and food. But nearly 60 years after its proclamation, many nations of Africa remain dirt poor, sadly crippled by extreme poverty, malnutrition,
diseases, civil strife and ethnic discrimination. The shameful living conditions in Chad call for immediate new strategies and concrete sustainable actions to lift the country out of poverty
